Yarn pack for Novice jumper or dress, knitted in the pattern for Novice jumper from PetiteKnit. With this yarn option, the sweater/dress is knitted in 1 thread Merino wool blend together with 1 thread Lace mohair/silk. Unfortunately, we do not have the rights to sell the recipe, but it can be purchased here:

If you want to knit the sweater/dress longer than the pattern suggests, either on the body or sleeves, you must go up a size.

The novice sweater/dress is knitted from the top down. That is, you start knitting the neckline, then the yoke, then the bodice and finally the sleeves. The garment is knitted in stockinette stitch, while the edges are knitted in purl.

Novice jumper/dress has a round yoke. It is formed by knitting increases of four rounds evenly distributed on the support piece.

For the dress, you continue knitting until you have the desired length (or until you run out of yarn - then it is recommended to knit the sleeves before you finish knitting the bodice!). The yarn gives a little weight to the dress so it hangs smoothly and nicely; Merino wool blend together with lace mohair/silk means that the dress holds its shape very well. If you want a hem dress, choose a size larger than you wear. Then it might be a good idea to insert a split on one side - get in touch if you want a description of the procedure.😊

The pattern for the Novice Sweater is particularly aimed at new knitters. It is written in detail without abbreviations.

Size guide and measurements

Note that you can only start from the measurements in the recipe if the knitting strength is respected.

The sizes XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL correspond to chest measurements of approximately 80-85 (85-90) 90-95 (95-100) 100-110 (110-120) 120-130 (130-140) 140-150 cm. Novice jumpers should have a range of motion (positive ease) of 5-10 cm. This means that if you, for example, measure 90 cm around the chest (measure yourself with a measuring tape), you should knit size S, which has a 98 cm excess width.

Sizes: XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL

Oversize: 91 (98) 103 (109) 116 (128) 138 (149) 161 cm

Length of sweater: Measured in the middle of the back without the folded purl edge at the neck = 54 (55) 57 (60) 62 (64) 65 (66) 68 cm

Dress length: Measured in the middle of the back of the neck = 108 cm, or desired length

Gauge: 16 stitches x 21 rounds in stockinette stitch on needles 6 mm = 10 x 10 cm

Guiding pins: Circular needle 5.5 and 6 mm (40 and 80 or 100 cm), double pointed needles 5.5 mm (if you do not knit sleeves withMagic Loop-technique)

More information

Merino wool blend:

Extrafine merino wool is used for this yarn so that it feels soft and gentle on the skin. The yarn is spun with extra long fibers to produce a yarn that is flexible and strong with a silky feel and shine. It is incredibly soft and elastic, and a small amount of nylon has been added for extra strength and dimensional stability to the yarn.

Other information:

85% extrafine merino wool/15% nylon, superwash

Lace mohair/silk:

Mohair's softness depends primarily on the quality of the fibers. Superkid mohair comes from the first sorting, and is the softest and thinnest fibers you get from the mohair goat. The second sort is usually what is called kid mohair, and is also soft, but not as soft as the superkid mohair. Superkid mohair can be used close to the skin, and provides incredibly light and airy garments. The silk gives the yarn a lovely, exclusive mother-of-pearl sheen.

The yarn is thin, so it is very suitable as a companion thread for e.g. many of PetiteKnit's designs. This yarn is well suited for ego knitting and children's knitting.

75% superkid mohair/25% mulberry silk
